Schools suspend 2,346 pupils for attacks and abuse

TEACHERS, classroom assistants and even dinner ladies in Essex were subjected to more than 2,000 physical and verbal assaults by pupils last year.
The Department for Education said 2,346 pupils were suspended over the school year 2009/10 for launching a physical attack or verbal tirade against an adult in their school, with 90 of these permanently excluded.
The figures show Essex has the most pupils attacking teachers in the East of England, with Hertfordshire second at 1,591.
