Man is attacked with a hammer in Basildon

A MAN needed hospital treatment after he was smashed over the head with a hammer.
The 44-year-old was in the Town Square, near the Basildon Centre, when he was set upon by two thugs. One of them then wielded the hammer.
The man was taken to Basildon Hospital for treatment but police said his injuries were not “life changing” and he is not in a serious condition.
A 41-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, while a 47-year-old, also from Basildon, was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.
Both have been released on police bail until December while officers continue to investigate.
